The Health and Safety in School Quiz
This quiz is designed to be used at the end of Unit 2 of the NCFE Level 2 Teaching Assistants Certificate.
The questions were designed using Bloom's Taxonomy with simple individual starter questions leading to more conceptual team bonus questions. The questions cover a large proportion of the Unit 2 range.
Starter questions in Round 1 are targeted at individuals, so that everyone contributes.
The first two rounds of the quiz give an opportunity to explore bonus answers in some depth and draw out insights from the other teams for extra points, if initial answers are not satisfactory.
The final round is more fact and knowledge based, with less opportunity for deeper thought.
Note: For the final round it is important to use the 'hide' button on the white board display or students will read ahead and gain advantage!
Organising the Quiz
I asked the class to organise themselves into teams of 3 in session 10 and gave them a chance to sort out their strategies and to start revising.
They were given 40 minutes and told:
- Sort yourselves into teams of three and plan your strategy.
- Will you each specialise on one section?
- Will you all work on everything?
- How will you organise your communications through the week?
- What techniques will you use to revise?
- Start your revision.
Teams used a variety of methods to keep in touch through the week including e-mail, text and mobile phones.
Evaluating the Quiz
The quiz went well and met the aims and objectives I had outlined for it. It was an enjoyable end to a unit that could have been quite heavy going. By using a combination of text and picture starters I was able to suit a variety of learners preferences. All the teams scored well and easily exceeded the 70% pass mark needed for the end of course tests.
A small chocolate prize was provided for the winning team, but, as I might have expected from this highly bonded and motivated group, it was spontaneously shared with the whole class.

And from one person who missed the quiz, 2 hours later:
"Where is the quiz? I couldn't find it online yet!I want to take it."
