Linda Hartley NCFE Level 2

Rationale

I have decided to split my medium term planning into blocks each covering 6 session. This will allow me to retain a level of flexibility whilst still ensuring the range of each unit is covered. I intend to look at one of the 3 main units in each block and to also cover some aspect of the Optional Units. These may be varied in response to the needs of the learners. The use of reflective practice and the learning journal will be common to all blocks. I will include one session in each block that will focus largely on the learning journals and aspects of study skills. In the main, evidence of key skills will be covered during sessions & by observations. Whilst students need only provide detailed evidence for 2 Optional Units (either 4&5 or 6&&) I intend to cover all 4 of them in sessions, in conjunction with the 3 main units. This will allow us to revisit the main units as students' levels of competence increase & make their progress towards higher level skills easier to evidence. It will also provide variety in the sessions.

E-Learning

In sessions I intend using a multi-media approach with extensive use of:

  • video
  • web sites, including this wiki
  • podcasts
  • images

Between sessions all learning materials will remain available online and participants are encouraged to join and participate in the e-mail group. This 'many to many' approach should facilitate team building and social learning whilst reducing over involvement on my part. It should also improve higher level literacy skills of the participants.

Personalised Learning

I also intend taking an active learning approach to sessions with an emphasis on group work and social learning.

I intend to work with clear learning objectives and specified outcomes. Careful use of the RAPA process and a multi media approach should ensure a personalised experience for all the learners.

I will give regular feedback both on work in sessions and work undertaken at home. For written feedback I will use the format:

Evaluating Sessions

I will evaluate sessions on the discussion page of the wiki and invite learners to add their own comments. I will use a Learning Journal format and extract action points to form my own SMART targets.
