Identifying and Assessing Emergency Situations
10:10 - 10:30
Last week we looked at hazards and risks in schools. This week we are going to look at what to do when things go wrong. Let's make a list of possible emergency situations:
Group Activity
In pairs, quickly (5 minutes) make a list of emergency situations that can happen in schools. Choose one of pair to report back.
Report back to group - brainstormed list to be made on wiki page and printed off.
Dealing with Emergencies
10:30 - 10:45
Now we are going to look at what to do in emergency situations and how to keep yourself and other people safe. What's the first thing to do when faced with an emergency? If you are not a certified first aider you need to know who is and where to find them. Get help! If you can't see an adult send a child to get one.
Keeping safe
- Contamination - blood and other bodily fluids are a risk to your health (HIV, Hepatitis etc) Always wear disposable gloves and an apron when you come into contact with them. (First Aid Box)
- Electric shock victims may still be in contact with the source of the shock. Check carefully before you touch them.
- Keep other children away from the area.
