Checking the grids
This will be our main activity today. We will start by looking at the 3 basic Units that you all took. The last part of the morning will look at your optional units. Today's activities will not be timed in the usual way. We will work through until 11:30, take a 15 minute coffee break and then continue.
Important
- Portfolios MUST be left with me at the end of the morning. I will accept any missing work by email until next Monday. That is Monday July 28th.
Reminders
Nothing in plastic envelopes except:
- policies if not annotated - labelled to say where your notes on them are
- Resources - should be labelled with an explanation of their use
- Multiple worksheets - ditto
Working documents, plans, hand written amendments to notes and plans are fine. Things do not need to be perfect and often provide better, more convincing evidence if they are not! Writing needs to be clear enough to read.
This Morning
You will need:
- Your portfolio
- A pencil
- A rubber
- Lots of patience!
As you find evidence for each element fill in the section of the candidate pack with what it is and where you found it. Your pages should be numbered for each section using a consistent numbering system.
Unit 1
Using Unit 1 as an example you can see how your evidence can be cross referenced using it for more than one element.
Evidence from session 1 and the homework

- Notes on the role of teaching assistant - notes on discussion session 1 or 1b Element 1.1.1, and 1.1.7

- 1.1.10
- 1.2.4
- 1.2.11
- 1.2.10

- 1.3.15
In your groups help each other to find the evidence for each of these elements in your portfolio and add it to the candidate forms.
- Make a note of any gaps remaining in your evidence for Unit 1.
- Can you think of evidence from later sessions that covers the missing elements? (Hint - homework Session 28? There are other examples particularly in Block 2 and evidence from your choice of optional units that covers skills auditing)
- DO NOT PANIC about gaps, remember I have observational evidence to add that covers some elements. Check the section My Observations below.
Unit 2
In pairs or threes work though Unit 2 including the notes from sessions and homework
- Session 7 - elements 2.1.6,2.1.7,2.1.8,2.1.4

- Session 10 - elements 2.2.11,2.2.12,2.2.13
- Session 11 - Most elements of Unit 2 - observed by tutor
- Can you think of evidence from later sessions that covers the missing elements? (Hint - There are many other examples particularly in Block 2 and your optional units)
Remember I also asked you questions on parts of this unit during your placement observations and these are in my observation reports. Check the section My Observations below.

Activity
Note any elements for which do you not have evidence.
In your groups
- Briefly discuss where else in your portfolio you can find evidence any gaps in Unit 3.
- Help each other to find evidence to cover gaps.
Workshop Days
Do not forget to include evidence from either of the workshop days if you attended them. The displays one provides evidence for Units 1, 2 and 3. The IT one provided evidence mostly for key skills but could also be used for some elements of Units 1 and 3.
Revision Notes
Your revision notes for Units 1, 2 and 3 can also be used as evidence. It does not matter if they are messy so long as they can be read.
Optional Units
Work through the same process for your optional units. Major elements of these are provided by the homework, talks and in class simulations. Also check the section My Observations below.
Unit 4
If you are not doing this unit any notes on literacy are evidence for Unit 3
Unit 5
If you are not doing this unit any notes on numeracy are evidence for Unit 3
Unit 6
If you are not doing this unit any notes on signs of abuse, Acts and any other aspects are evidence for the mandatory units.
Unit 7
If you are not doing this unit any notes on Special Needs (e.g. notes on dyslexia video) Acts and any other aspects are evidence for the mandatory units.
