Cornstarch Finger Paint
- 1 tablespoon of corn flour
- 4 cups boiling water
- Food colouring or powder paint

Method
Dissolve corn flour in a bowl with a small amount of cold water. Gradually add the boiling water, whisking continuously until the mixture thickens. Add food colouring.

Soap Flakes Finger Paint
Ideal for snow effects. Cooked version
- 2/3 cup corn flour
- 1 cup cold water
- 3 cups boiling water
- 1 and 1/2 cups Lux soap flakes
- 1 teaspoon glycerine
- A drop of blue food colouring (makes it a more intense white)

Method
- Dissolve corn flour in cold water in saucepan
- Smooth lumps by stirring
- Add boiling water, stirring constantly
- Thicken until clear but do not boil more than one minute.
- Add rest of ingredients when cold.

Ideas for Using Finger Paints
Use on:
- glazed paper,
- newsprint,
- old wrapping paper,
- washable surface for monoprints.

Warning
Finger paint really doesn't keep well. Make it fresh each time. If you want to keep it for a few days put in a few drops of tea tree oil and make sure you store it covered in a fridge. Corn flour is just too much of a haven for bugs and little hands are often not as clean as we might wish!
