When to use this book
Use this book with a child who is mostly using structure and visual cues. There is plenty of rhyme and repetition to scafold their reading. The pictures are amusing and cute. Not so well tolerated by boys this can be just too cute for them. The book is based on a well known rhyme with actions and as it moves from new book to old favourite these can really come into their own. Often ending up as a performance piece this is one that can stay in the book bag for many weeks.
Introduction
"This book is based on a silly ryhme I think you might just know. It's all about these two cute puppies and their very long ears that waggle to and fro"
Embedding hard words
We are really looking for the child to spot first sounds here so for example the word "waggle" on the first page should be fairly easy to identify. Later on watch out for "shoulder" "regimental" and "soldier". These are tricky words but often the child already knows the rhyme so it's just a matter of locating them on the page.
