We Will Rock You, not just for Queen fans. May 2, 2008

The thing that surprised me about We Will Rock You is that much though we all loved Queen, there’s a lot more to the show than just another jukebox musical. I mean, Ben Elton wrote this and he’s no idiot!

The “We Will Rock You” Story

The unusual plot scenario for We Will Rock You takes us into a nasty future on Planet Mall. In this brave new world, the owning and playing of musical instruments is a crime and the only permitted music is the dire pap generated by The Company’s Computers.

Underneath the massive cities, deep underground there are rebels who are fighting to save music from the evil soulless clutches of The Company. (Little bit of politics there :-) ) They call themselves the Bohemians. They preserve the memory of a legendary Golden Age of music known as The Rhapsody’, a time when ‘bands’ played the instruments, wrote their own songs and rock was the free. The Bohemians are fighting to find a way of saving music from being destroyed by the tuneless drivel created by the Company Computers. There is a legend that speaks of a Galileo who holds the key to saving music forever. The Bohemians are searching for him but they must find him before the dreaded Ga Ga police. If they fail music will be lost forever and all that will be left is The Company’s computer generated noise.

Travelling to London by train and staying in a central hotel is a sensible choice for getting the most out of any West End show and We Will Rock You is a clear favourite musical, with it’s clever satirical script writing and legendary rock anthems score.
