No dates are fixed, no contracts signed, but it seems Trevor Nunn is to direct a revival of Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music” there in the near future.
It will be the first London revival of the show since a 1995 National Theatre production. Sondheim fans will be delighted and will no doubt be dashing down to London from all over the UK.
Meanwhile preparations for Gone with the Wind are keeping Nunn occupied over at the New London Theatre.

Posted by admin in : news, zorro , add a commentThe swashbuckling spectacular “Mask of Zorro” is a old theatre favourite, I remember seeing a lovely production at Theatre Royal, Stratford East back when my children were small. A new production is due to start touring this spring with a very good chance of transferring to the West End later in 2008. This version comes from the same prodction team behind We Will Rock You and features a musical score by flamenco band The Gipsy Kings. The Mask of Zorro opens as a world premiere in Woking’s New Victoria Theatre on the 13th March 2008.

If you book theatre breaks in advance, there is always the chance that a star you particularly want to see won’t be playing the part any more. You can mitigate against by keeping an eye out on theatre news sources such as this London Theatre blog to get advance warning before you book a theatre break, but cast changes can also be no bad thing. They provide a great excuse to go and see a favourite show for a second or subsequent time and compare performances. Spamalot is a favourite theatre break show and here is the latest news:
Cast Changes at Spamalot
Some interesting cast exchanges are happening to Monty Python’s smash musical Spamalot this month. Currently playing Lady of the Lake on Broadway, Marin Mazzie, is joining the London cast from January 14th. The current West End Lady of the Lake, Hannah Waddingham, will join the Broadway production on Jan. 18. Other stars of the West End company currently include Peter Davison, Robert Hands, Steven Kynman, Graham MacDuff, Andrew Spillett, Tony Timberlake and Bill Ward.
Mazzie is a genuine Broadway star and has received Tony Award nominations for her roles in Ragtime, Passion and Kiss Me, Kate.
Waddingham was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for her role in the London production of Spamalot. Her face will be familiar to TV addicts from the hit series Footballer’s Wives.
Spamalot story
The musical tells the tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table on their quest from God for the Holy Grail - with a short stop in the dazzling Spam-filled land of Camelot.
The book is by Eric Idle and is loosely based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Monty Python creators Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones and Michael Palin. The show’s score includes songs “Brave Sir Robin” and “Knights of the Round Table” from the film as well as the Python signature “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.”

Chicago- Now Booking To February 2009 January 21, 2008
Posted by admin in : Musicals, news , add a commentChicago at the Cambridge Theatre is now booking right through till Feb 2009! The new booking period covering 28 July 2008 – 28 February 2009 will go on sale on Monday 28 January.
Chicago celebrated its tenth anniversary with a glamourous Charity Gala Performance on 5 December 2007. A true West End smash hit, Chicago transferred to the Cambridge Theatre in 2006.
Cast Changes
Bonnie Langford and Brenda Edwards will be playing their roles as ‘Roxie Hart’ and ‘Mama Morton’ for an extra 4 weeks until 24 February. Duncan James has extended his starring run as ‘Billy Flynn’ by two weeks until 10 February. Amra-Faye Wright and Paul Rider will continue to play the roles of ‘Velma Kelly’ and ‘Amos Hart’ until 24 February.
