** Book We Will Rock You Theatre Breaks **

We Will Rock You has already turned 2009 into a record breaking New Year. It achieved the highest number of paid admissions in one week for any West End show last year. More than 20,000 tickets were bought in the six days following the 29th of December.

Brian May to Appear in We Will Rock You!

Brian May, one of the co-creators of We Will Rock You will be visiting the show on Saturday the 10th of January. On his site brianmay.com May says:

‘I usually try to keep it casual, because really it’s all about me bonding with the cast and band and crew, and sharing a little bit of their load … but I always get stick from people saying “You didn’t tell us you were going to be there!” So this time, I’ll say it quietly but clearly … I WILL be there Saturday 10th, and I will be making a small appearance (or is it “apparition”?) in the matinee and evening shows. It’s not an advertised part of the show – it’s just a fun bonus, which happens about once a year … but it’s always a blast. It will be doubly exciting this time, since the last time I tried it, the lift got stuck, and I ended up in a very dark smoky cage under the stage for the whole of the solo in Bohemian Rhapsody. So we will be trying not to repeat that effect !!!’ ‘This Saturday is WWRY Party day … we will be celebrating between shows, and afterwards, entering our 8th year of Rocking London in 2009, with The Greatest Show In Town !!! See ya there … let’s rock into the New Year.’

Wish I had tickets for tomorrow’s show!! We had a real blast when we went to see We Will Rock You last year. It’s definitely on my list to re-visit. Ideally I’d like to see Rachel Tucker’s occasional Scaramouche but seeing Brian May in the production would be good too!

We Will Rock You Special Offer

It’s worth mentioning that there are some very special offers available at the moment for We Will Rock You theatre breaks, with a free hotel included in the £60 per person ticket price for weekday performances between now and 26 March 2009

We Will, We Will Rock You

We Will Rock You theatre breaks bring the sounds, spectacle and excitement of a big rock concert to one of the larger London theatres that looks just the part.
Going to a real rock concert usually involves a large amount of discomfort including queues for tickets, queues for entrance, and sometimes waiting for hours to see if the headline band will actually show up, only to be turned out into the cold night streets long after the last trains have left the station. The stage show of We Will Rock You after telling its not insignificant story woven through with great songs, recreates some of a rock concert atmosphere as it reaches several surging crescendos and eventually send the audience and fans exhausted but uplifted back out to Tottenham Court Road at around 10.15pm after nearly three hours of high quality entertainment.

We Will Rock You as Musical Theatre

Don’t get the idea that We Will Rock You is just some kind of tribute band cover performance though, this is a genuine piece of musical theatre, play written by Ben Elton with a real plot, songs that move the story forward, classic duets, lots of comedy, astonishing costumes and possibly the most technically advanced set changes and special effects in the West End.

Theatre Breaks to see We Will Rock You

Not quite your regular theatre weekend audience, dressed up for a meal and show, the Dominion Theatre fills with a mixture of musicals lovers, Queen fans on pilgrimage, theatre breaks regulars, Londoners who know a good night out, and even corporate entertainers. We Will Rock You Theatre Breaks are a good choice for couples and groups with varying tastes, perhaps especially those for whom classic musicals like The Sound Of Music or Oliver are just a little bit sugary. Talking of Oliver though, one of the Nancy finalists from I’d do anything Rachel Tucker found her way into We Will Rock You playing the part of “Meat” and her bubbly performance really shines through, stealing the show for much of the first act. Apparently she’s also understudy to Sabrina Aloueche and occasionally plays the lead female role of Scaramouche (see the Rachel Tucker blog.)

Hotels for We Will Rock You Theatre Breaks

Choosing the right hotel is a unique decision depending on how you plan to spend your theatre break, personal preference and maybe past experience. The location of the Dominion Theatre is right by Tottenham court tube station so if proximity to the show is important, then you’ve got the St Giles Hotel (Three bars, dancing) right on the same crossroads and 18th Century Blooms Townhouse just behind in Russel Square. Also, being on the north side of theatreland, any of the Hotels around St Pancras and Kings Cross areas might be convenient, especially if you are taking advantage of the 40% discount on rail travel when booked in advance with theatre breaks and use those stations.

Holiday Inn Kings Cross

Novotel London St Pancras

Travelodge King’s Cross Royal Scot

The availability of top London Hotel rooms at discount theatre breaks prices will obviously vary according to the best dates you can put into your search, but as a rough guide, previous We Will Rock You Theatre Breaks customers have in the past also chosen:

Holiday Inn London Mayfair

Strand Palace

Holiday Inn Bloomsbury

Travelodge City Road

Holiday Inn Kensington Forum

Marriott Regents Park

City Inn Westminster

Premier Inn Kensington

Crowne Plaza London St James

Copthorne Tara Hotel

Millenium Baileys Hotel

Strand Palace Hotel

Holiday Inn Bloomsbury

Park Inn Hyde Park

Great news for anybody who’s always wanted to see We Will Rock You or wants to go again (and who wouldn’t?). It’s one of the shows qualifying for the free hotel offer with midweek theatre breaks in August 2008.

This means you can get an inclusive theatre and hotel deal with top tickets to see We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre for as little as £60 per person, and this includes staying one night in a three star hotel in central London. Yes, a three star hotel stay thrown in!

For more details, read the London Hotel Deals page here at London theatre breaks or else head straight on over to book now.

Clue – “Rachel, you are not Nancy”

We Will Rock You has a new leading lady – Rachel Tucker! Rachel will take over as Meat at London’s Dominion Theatre from September 22nd.

Rachel said:

“It is a dream part. We Will Rock You is one of my favourite shows.

“I first saw it when I was a student at the Royal Academy and loved it.

“I am beside myself with excitement. I just can’t believe it.”

Belfast born and bred, Rachel almost made it to the final of the BBC1 show I’d Do Anything before she heard those fateful words. Despite a fabulous performance of Cabaret, she lost her chance to star as Nancy in the West End production of musical Oliver!

Now she has her chance on the West End stage after all and in one of the most popular and well established shows in town. Let’s not forget Kerry Ellis once played this role and look at her now!

We Will Rock You

We Will Rock You has been has been running at the Dominion Theatre for six years. The musical is based on the songs of Queen and a book by Ben Elton.

Other New Cast Members

Ian Carlyle – (Porgy and Bess and Miss Saigon) will play Meat’s partner Britney.

Garry Lake – (ex We Will Rock You ensemble) will play Pop.

Rachel Tucker is the latest contestant from I’d Do Anything to be offered a dream of a role in London theatre. She’s landed the part of “Meat” in the fantastically successful We Will Rock You starting on September 22nd.

Rachel Tucker was the Northern Irish girl who came fourth in the BBC series with Andrew Lloyd Weber and Cameron Macintosh looking for a winner to play Nancy in Oliver when it starts in December. That prize was won by Jodie Prenger, but Oliver will be a revival of an old favourite musical whereas We Will Rock You has been running for six years at the Dominion Theatre, and ten years altogether in London. Rachel has never performed in the West End before, but she’s not inexperienced in the world of theatre by any means, having appeared in UK tours of The Full Monty, Tommy and Tonight’s The Night, on top of many shows in Belfast.

The thing that surprised me about We Will Rock You is that much though we all loved Queen, there’s a lot more to the show than just another jukebox musical. I mean, Ben Elton wrote this and he’s no idiot!

The “We Will Rock You” Story

The unusual plot scenario for We Will Rock You takes us into a nasty future on Planet Mall. In this brave new world, the owning and playing of musical instruments is a crime and the only permitted music is the dire pap generated by The Company’s Computers.

Underneath the massive cities, deep underground there are rebels who are fighting to save music from the evil soulless clutches of The Company. (Little bit of politics there ) They call themselves the Bohemians. They preserve the memory of a legendary Golden Age of music known as The Rhapsody’, a time when ‘bands’ played the instruments, wrote their own songs and rock was the free. The Bohemians are fighting to find a way of saving music from being destroyed by the tuneless drivel created by the Company Computers. There is a legend that speaks of a Galileo who holds the key to saving music forever. The Bohemians are searching for him but they must find him before the dreaded Ga Ga police. If they fail music will be lost forever and all that will be left is The Company’s computer generated noise.

The Music of Queen in We Will Rock You

Just have a listen to this to get a feel for how well Queen’s music is adapted in We Will Rock You for the stage:
Oh boy, do I love that song!

Theatre Breaks to see We Will Rock You

Travelling to London by train and staying in a central hotel is a sensible choice for getting the most out of any West End show and We Will Rock You is a clear favourite musical, with it’s clever satirical script writing and legendary rock anthems score.
We Will Rock You theatre breaks can be booked for as little as £72.50 per person including top tickets and hotel.
