Adapted by Nick Stafford, War Horse tells the story of the young Albert and his beloved horse Joey. Sold to the cavalry at the outbreak of World War One, Albert embarks on a huge and perilous journey to be reunited with his horse. Shipped to the battlefields of northern France, Albert’s devotion to Joey must stand and face the full dangerous force of the Western Front.
Playing at the New London Theatre, War Horse features: Kit Harington as Albert Narracott, Laura Cubitt as Joey, Alice Barclay as Paulette, James Barriscale as Chapman, Michael Brett as Baby Joey, Simon Bubb as Stewart, Tim Lewis as Nicholls, Colin Mace as Ted Narracott and Nicholas Tizzard as Sergeant Allan.

This production has been met with critical acclaim — its use of life-size puppets of horses from the Handspring Puppet Company won an Olivier Award, Evening Standard Theatre Award and London Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for design. War Horse has now become the most successful in the National Theatre’s history. On Monday 12th October 2009 the performance of the play was seen by HM Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh making a rare personal visit to the theatre (their first such private visit in four years).
The National Theatre’s smash hit arrives in the West End, playing at the New London Theatre from 28 March 2009.
