While Jonathan Groff and Lea Michele (Spring Awakening on Broadway) continue their careers on the big or small screen (Jonathan is currently on show at the Hotel Woodstock film director Ang Lee and Lea is in episodes of new series Glee), the  actors from the London cast of Spring Awakening are not far behind.

Indeed, Charlotte Wakefield played Wendla in the London version is currently filming Holby City.

Jamie Blackley, who played Hanschen will soon be in a new film with William Monahan, Keira Knightley and Colin Farell.

Punk Rock

Finally, Harry McEntire, who played Ernst will be part of a new musical by Simon Stephens: Punk Rock. This runs from 3rd to the 26th of September 2009 at the Lyric Hammersmith. (The very theatre that hosted Spring Awakening last February before its transfer to the West End.)

Punk Rock looks pretty good and is the tense story of a group of six young school friends. It is another rites of passage based piece but looks like it could be even more powerful than Spring Awakening.The blurb says:

William Carlisle. The world at his feet. Its weight on his shoulders. Intelligent. Articulate. F***ed.

Ooh sounds interesting. Let’s hope it does as well as Spring Awakening which was one of my favourite shows!
