The Mask of Zorro February 5, 2008
Posted by admin in : news, zorro , add a commentThe swashbuckling spectacular “Mask of Zorro” is a old theatre favourite, I remember seeing a lovely production at Theatre Royal, Stratford East back when my children were small. A new production is due to start touring this spring with a very good chance of transferring to the West End later in 2008. This version comes from the same prodction team behind We Will Rock You and features a musical score by flamenco band The Gipsy Kings. The Mask of Zorro opens as a world premiere in Woking’s New Victoria Theatre on the 13th March 2008.

Summer Strallen from Holyoaks is to be the new Maria in the Sound of Music.
Six months ago Lord Lloyd-Webber had already decided to cast Summer Strallen as Maria, before she started playing starstruck Summer Shaw in Hollyoaks.
Channel 4 producer Tony Wood asked him if he would be interested in taking part in the series as himself and mingling fact and fiction as a character from the soap finds fame and fortune on the West End stage. Lord Lloyd-Webber appears in three episodes and is hoping his 11 year old daughter, a fan of the show, will be kind about his acting.
Summer started to appear in Hollyoaks in October. Her story line climaxes when she meets Lord Lloyd-Webber during Friday’s show, after which he gives her the role.
Summer Strallen has a performing background, having appeared in Cats, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Guys And Dolls. She comes from a theatrical family and is the niece of Bonnie Langford.
But like so many of the current stars in West End she has now had TV exposure before taking on a lead role.
Here’s a taster of what we might expect - Oh and a glimpse of the man himself as well!

Nina Soderquist has won the chance to appear as the next Lady of the Lake in the London production of Spamalot. Nina, a lieutenant in the Swedish army, who has never performed in a musical before, won the Swedish reality TV show West End Star.
She gained received 59% of the public vote during the live final on Saturday, just beating her rival Linda Holmgren.
She will give her first performance in the leading lady role at the Palace Theatre on February 11.
She said:
“I am so happy to have won West End Star - for a second I thought I was actually going to die on live TV. It’s a dream come true. I can’t quite believe I will be Spamalot’s new Lady of the Lake. Before I entered West End Star, I had never sung a song from a musical. I had only ever seen one musical my life, Cats, as a teenager on a school trip to London.
My family and friends will be here for opening night and hopefully all the TV viewers who voted for me will follow soon after.”

Darius is Rhett Butler! February 1, 2008
Posted by admin in : Gone With the Wind, New London Theatre, news , add a commentDarius Danesh is to play Rhett Butler in the new musical version of Gone with the Wind! Clark Gable gave us the first, and for many the definitive, Rhett Butler, the cad who cared really but was damned if he’d show it, in the film version of Gone With The Wind, and now Darius hopes to make the role his own on stage.

Darius came to fame via the TV show Pop Idol, and has had several platinum-selling records. He now lives in the Hollywood Hills but has been flying to London for secret meetings with Trevor Nunn and the show’s musical director Gareth Valentine.
Before Darius starts rehearsals in London, he’ll be working on his third album at his private LA studio. GWTW rehearsals start next week and are likely to be intense, especially as the script is still being tweaked.
It’s been suggested that there will be more emphasis on the roles of the slaves than in the film. So Jina Burrows’ Prissy and Natasha Yvette Williams’ Mammy should be both be much bigger parts than might have been assumed.
Jill Paice will play Scarlett; Edward Baker-Duly, Ashley; Madeleine Worrall, Melanie; Natasha Yvette Williams, Mammy; and Jina Burrows, Prissy.
Previews are at the New London Theatre from April 4, with official opening night on April 22.
