This was placed next to the anti-bullying graffiti wall. Children were encouraged to write their ideas for being kind. Above you can just see the anti-bullying badges that they all made.

I like these. They are clear and easy to understand even for a small child. The only thing I’m not so keen on is that there’s nothing positive on here. Bad behaviour is clearly defined and consequences spelled out but what about good behaviour? There’s no reward - just the absence of bad consequences.

We tend to put lots of emphasis on stopping bullying. We don’t do very much with classroom rules. We tend to have each class make posters about their own classroom rules and those are displayed for the first few weeks of term. What seems to happen in some USA schools looks quite interesting. It’s certainly clearer for the kids what is and is not acceptable. See the next two posts for examples.

It worked well - there was a whole week of circle times on the subject,a ‘180 ways to be kind’ wall which the children were able to add ideas to all week,(I might have a photo of that somewhere..) a suggestions box for positive things to do at playtime, peace maker patrols and it ended with a whole school anti-bullying party where everyone wore blue and lots of positive games were played.
