talking ok: quiet indoor voices, originally uploaded by deepellen.

Visual behaviour cues are very important to many learners. I like this use of traffic lights. It’s simple and direct. Once they know the code it’s easy for children to tell if they are doing the right thing by just a glance.

Display Advice 2

Here are some suggestions for ways of setting out work on a display board. I find that ‘hanging from a line’ and ’standing on a line’ are very useful. It’s important, I think not to distract the eye from the work.
If straight lines are being used it’s worth while making sure they really are straight. Nothing looks worse than work that’s mounted slightly ‘off’. I try to use an improvised plumb line (pencil tied to a bit of string) to make sure my vertical lines are spot on.

display advice 1

Do you have rules for mounting work in your school? I know that some schools have very strict guidelines, often in an attempt to achieve a more uniform school style for displays. These suggestions came from a course I attended a couple of years ago. They’re not rocket science but they might be useful if you are new to making displays.
We don’t have formalised rules in my school but I try to avoid double mounting work if possible, just because it’s such a waste of paper.
