		<description>Hear Hear for those with ASDs etc - my first though on seeing the picture of the classroom above was - 'what a nightmare for the child with autism' - then I read your comment :-)

Those with autism usually have a highly aroused visual sense - so what stimulates an NT (neurotypical) child produces overarousal in the autistic child.

Christmas is the worst time ... decorations both overarouse their visual senses AND ... IMPORTANTLY ... make the whole classroom seem totally alien to an autistic child ... it's like having lessons etc in a different room altogether. Add to that the total lack of routine that Christmas brings to the school atmosphere, staff wearing hats or flashing earrings etc - every parent's nightmare when your child has autism ... often they hold it together long enough to get home and then ... wham! :-(</description>
